There
About 15,000 jobs inside the Downcity overlay in 2023 (14,975; 15,211 in 2022; 13,852 in 2019), about 140 per acre over 107 acres. Largest sectors: professional services 2,751, food and lodging 2,345, finance and insurance 2,087. Retail is 152. The wider city 'Downtown' neighborhood has 26,491, down 9% from 2019's 29,141. These are jobs sited at an employer address, not people in the building on a given day; LODES does not see remote work. S40 B1

Notes
Counted by Claude Sept 28 2026 with lodes.py: 2020 census blocks whose internal point falls inside each polygon, all jobs (S000, JT00). Providence's line is the zoning overlay (parcel-edged); the peers' are street centrelines, so their acreage includes half the boundary streets. Block-level siting is noisy: two neighbouring blocks on either side of the Downcity line swapped about 850 jobs between 2019 and 2023. Polygons in data/geo/peers/. The demand root the clock runs on.
